Nicola Lynas was abducted from her home on the 3rd of July 1990. Nicola’s parents were out on this night and she was home with her sister. Both girls were asleep when a masked intruder broke in via a back window by disengaging the winder arm. The man threatened the girls with a gun and knife before tying Nicola's sister's hands and feet. He led Nicola to another room where he made her gather items of her clothing - Presbyterian Girls College blazer, tunic, and runners. He tells her sister to relay to her father that Nicola will be released upon payment of $25,000 before taking off with Nicola in the family's leased Holden Berlina parked in the driveway. He drove her a short way (less than 1 km away) to Chaucer Crescent where he swapped cars and drove off. No further contact was made by the kidnapper about the ransom demand. He stole Rosemary Lynas drivers license, medicare, and credit card.

“The family of Nicola Lynas who was abducted on Tuesday night had moved into their home on Monomeath Ave, Canterbury only three months ago”. (Longo, 1990).

The family had lived in Margaret St, Canterbury but moved in March to their newly rented home”. (Longo, 1990)

“It’s certain to me that he had been watching the house.  The way he broke into the house would indicate that he knew the girls were alone”. (Blackshaw, 1990)
